For the launch of Justin Bieber’s 15‑track album Journals, Island Records and Evil Twin Productions entrusted us to create a compelling 15‑second social and TV promo that captured the vulnerable introspection and atmospheric mood of the project. We aimed to reflect the artistic tone of Journals—a mature, moody, and musically refined body of work—by blending live performance footage with expressive motion design.

Our creative process began on set, filming Justin in a minimalistic, dimly lit location where rows of Edison bulbs cast warm, intimate glows across reflective surfaces. The cinematography emphasized close facial expressions and subtle gestures, conveying the emotional intimacy that the album’s acoustic-led tracks evoke.
In post-production, we infused the footage with expressive visual overlays—soft light flares and floating lyric fragments composed in neon-tinted typography. The design drew inspiration from the album’s cover art, which features muted purples contrasted with bold, handwritten type. Animated text elements float across the image, teasing track names like “All That Matters” and “Heartbreaker,” creating purposeful visual rhythm without distracting from Bieber’s emotive performance.
Subtle camera pushes, slow zooms, and layered graphic transitions build momentum throughout the clip. The teaser concludes with the album’s “Journals” title in bold, neon-purple script, then a stylized mock-up of the digital album cover, release date, and streaming platform details. The execution creates a sense of anticipation, a window into the contemplative, mature tone Bieber was unveiling.
Though this promo was designed for fast-paced digital consumption, the treatment and aesthetic quality earned attention among music video editors and social media tastemakers. While there’s no official awards listing for this specific spot, it received positive reception from fans and critics alike, with many commenting on how the visuals elevated the tone of Journals beyond standard pop promo fare.
